Our volunteer coordinator Katie still needs volunteers for the Vancouver International Swordplay Symposium 2013. Volunteering is a great way to get work experience in a wide range of fields, or WMA-related perks. Working to help run an international event looks great on a résumé.
Perks of Being a VISS Volunteer:
Volunteers will be granted a hefty 50% discount for 10 hours of work, or a complementary pass for 18 hours of work. Or, if you just want to be a good citizen, pitch in for a half-day to get those warm-fuzzy-feelings. And hugs… we give good hugs.
Here are some of the jobs still available:
Registration Table
Do you have any experience in performing transactions with customers? Registration volunteers will get to hand out passes and t-shirts at the start of the conference or assist with selling tickets for our public events!
Fundraiser and Gala Assistance
There are a wide range of jobs available at the VISS Gala on Saturday, February 16th and the post-VISS Fundraiser on Saturday, March 30th. We need help with set-up, serving beverages, clean-up, and watching the door.
Driver
If you have a driver’s license, you can apply to assist with picking instructors up at the airport or with the transport of equipment between locations once the conference is underway.
Event Runner / Facilities Liaison
Event runners assist an instructor with their equipment and the facility, checking student passes, and assisting instructors with any requests that they have. This is an important position where you will act as an ambassador to our city as well as to the Academie itself.
Tournament Marshal and Sparring Supervision
You can help us to keep the floor safe during free sparring. If you familiar with Academie Duello’s equipment requirements and sparring rules, this is the position for you!
