Frequently Asked Questions

When is VISS?
VISS 2020 will be held on March 6th – 8th 2020.

How do I get there?
VISS 2020 is located at the Richmond Olympic Oval (6111 River Rd, Richmond, BC V7C 0A2) which is highly accessible via the Skytrain Canada Line (Lansdowne Station) which also connects to the Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Additionally, there are hotels in the vicinity of the Oval and you can visit our detailed page on location and tourism to learn more!

Do I need a car?
No! However, there is parking available at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

What’s the difference between an “intensive track workshop” and just a workshop?
The ‘intensive track workshops’ are long courses split over the three days of the symposium. There are five intensive tracks (some running concurrently in the morning, and some in the afternoon). Essentially, they are a 9-hour course split into three 3-hour sessions. Jumping in and out of the intensive tracks is really not recommended, however this may be a feasible option for extremely advanced students. We also have stand-alone workshops for smaller topics which can be covered in a single 1-3 hour session.

What equipment do I need to bring?
We have a standard list of armour requirements on the VISS Sparring Equipment Requirements page.

Workshops will not provide weapons unless otherwise specified. Protective equipment such as masks and gorgets will NOT be provided in any workshop. You must organize to rent these items, purchase them from us, or borrow them from a friend if you are not bringing your own.
