The Fabrisian Tradition over the Generations

Instructor(s): Michael Heveran

Salvator Fabris left behind one of the longest legacies of any Italian swordsman. This lecture will explore that legacy, tracing Fabris’s life and the lineage of his students, who passed down a version of his art from the seventeenth to the twentieth century.

Even beyond his lineage, Fabris inspired an enormous amount of commentary and supplementary technical material. We will discuss this historical footprint and use it to advance a new view of Fabris: he was one of the most influential Italian swordsmen in history, but his influence was primarily felt outside of Italy.
