Call for 2 Organizational Volunteers

The Vancouver International Swordplay Symposium is looking for two organizational volunteers.

Time commitment will vary depending on the amount of work which needs to be done from one week to the next. Each assistant will be compensated in the form of one full pass to the VISS symposium, the Gala, and Fundraiser in return for fulfillment of their position.

Reporting to the VISS Sponsorship Coordinator, the Fundraiser Assistant / Gala Coordinator will carry out crucial tasks associated with the planning and execution of one VISS Fundraiser this coming December as well as the VISS Gala in February 2013. Duties may include but are not limited to contacting catering services, rental services, musicians, and performers, the acquisition of appropriate decorations, and the coordination of door and drink ticket sales.
The Fundraiser Assistant / Gala Coordinator will work with the Sponsorship Coordinator to create a plan for volunteer shifts and positions at these events. They will also be present at each event and act as Sponsorship Coordinator’s second in command, which may involve giving volunteers direction and ensuring that they have the materials they need in order to perform their jobs successfully.
This is a great opportunity to gain work experience in the fields of fundraising, event planning, and people management.

Sponsorship Assistant

Reporting to the VISS board member for Sponsorship, the Sponsorship Assistant will assist with communication with current and potential sponsors in person, over the phone, and by e-mail. Duties may include but are not limited to the creation and presentation of sponsorship applications to companies that the Symposium has worked with in the past or would like to partner with for the first time, providing us with either funds or goods in return for advertising space on our event website and printed materials.

The sponsorship assistant will also take part in the logistics of catered lunch orders and their distribution during the Symposium. You may also be asked to contact potential vendors. We are looking for someone with excellent written and oral skills, high energy and professionalism.
