How do we make sense of Bolognese guards? What are the organizing principles of the system? How do these guards reveal the values of the Bolognese tradition? How does the system relate to contemporary guard systems? This lecture will attempt to answer those questions and more as we embark on an in-depth exploration of the Bolognese guard system. We will discuss physical mechanics and abstract concepts alike and, in the process, understand the idea of a “guard” a little more deeply.
