This hands-on workshop will introduce students to some of the fundamental concepts of Destreza for sabre as laid out by Simon de Frias in his 1809 work, the first treatise on fencing to be published in Mexico, and the earliest work to focus primarily on the Sabre within the context of La Verdadera Destreza. Particular focus will be placed on Frias’ basic offensive and defensive theory and how it applies to simple attacks and counters within this highly thrust-oriented system.
Fencing Mask, Gorget and Sabre. A similar one handed sword with a complex hilt can substitute, such as a sidesword.
